With the enormous interest expressed by many who have signed up to run for the Richardson ISD school board it gives us all a lot to think about. We want the best education for our students and there are many roads (and candidates) to getting there. As you think about your vote - What kind of person should we look for? A person with the ability to understand the facts and work within limitations of any situation, while having a clear beneficial goal, is a person best suited for this job.
I want to elect individuals who are not only centered in gaining positive student outcome but who also use the equity lens across all areas involved in education. Someone who is ready to move the needle towards more improvement with extra determination than in the past. Candidates should be able to have a concrete plan and demonstrate the necessary dedication to run a campaign. Their campaign allows us to learn more about them, such as what drives them to run and gives us a small glimpse of the effort they will put into their work as trustee. With campaigning they should want to meet and listen to our communities while also speaking of the importance this role has over the education of our RISD students.
Our chosen candidates should have above average knowledge on key policy drivers and measures. Our community, families, and students deserve and need trustees that are ready to have the "uncomfortable" questions for policy decisions and support equitable solutions. I am hopeful and expectant to have a high-capacity board that is determined at using the arts of thought, compromise, and progress to improve the student experience, with racial equity, to develop our students into the successful global citizens they can be.
After much research - I'm happy to announce my support for the following candidates:
